… on the road for more than 50 years !
After the euphoria of the “golden sixties,” with the real breakthrough of the automobile, sobering came in the early 1970s. The infamous oil crisis triggered a veritable “back-to-nature” craze. Stimulated by the banging performances of Eddy Merckx, the man who taught his people how to ride a bicycle, cycling touring clubs shot up like mushrooms in the first half of the 1970s. It was back “in” to cycle through nature on your own.
Thus in 1973, the WTC De Hoek cycling touring club in Rode was born. The first president was Henry “Stella” Steenhouwer and the first secretary Julien Sergeys.
Since its creation, our club has always managed to let the comradeship prevail.
With our 4 groups, and each their pace, you can start young and build a long career within the club …
After all these years, the success of WTC De Hoek can be measured by the number of club members, and by its own activities (both sportive and social).
Without losing sight of the original goal : cycling in nature, with the integration into the associative life, including the necessary social contact.
